Basic Purpose of an Operations Assistant
The role can include a number of tasks including but not exclusive to: Cleaning of the School, undertaking scheduled tasks which include venue set up for events and functions, post, laundry, housekeeping and waste and recycling collection. Working to schedules which can often have tight deadlines the role requires an appreciation of customer service and a respect for detail.
Operations Assistants are required to undertake the following duties as directed by the Operations Supervisor, using the prescribed methods and frequencies in line with the requirements of the cleaning specification.
The set-up of venues across the school to the correct standards for both internal and external events. This includes the set-up of rooms with correct furniture, notices, paper etc. to a schedule supplied by the Operations Managers to support internal and external exams. This also includes Charterhouse Enterprises events that take place in out of term periods.
Collect post from different locations within the Charterhouse site and process both the internal and external mail.
Logistics across site including collection and disposal of waste/recycling from across the site. The supply and movement of furniture, when necessary from stores to locations as requested or for specific layouts for use as per the school functions.
Supply to different departments the requested cleaning products from central stores area.
Collection and return of laundry as per the time frames given.
Ability to drive School vehicles including the Luton tailgate van
Clean, when necessary inside areas of school to a professional standard. Designated areas will be allocated which will need regular scheduled cleaning but ad-hoc cleaning will be expected of areas as required by the calendar of school functions. This will include toilets, public access areas, academic buildings and boarding houses.

Special Working Conditions
Working hours for this role are Monday to Friday, 0700 - 1600, a total of 40 hours per week with an hour for lunch (unpaid), all year round; with occasional bank holiday working dependent on the need to provide support to events. It would be expected that Carthusian Day (currently held on the first Saturday of May Half term) and the last day of the academic year (generally last Saturday of June) be considered normal working days. There may be a requirement to work the last weekend of August prior to the start of the academic year.
Salary per hour for normal working hours after 8.00am and £12.91 per hour for normal working hours before 8.00am.
Where available, overtime and evening working will be paid at £12.91 per hour and weekend working will be paid at £16.98 per hour.
